THANKS, DAD

“The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.”

~ Proverbs 23:24

Homeschool dads, as well as the moms, have the double responsibility of not only being a parent but also being a teacher. As a child, I didn’t understand or appreciate the responsibilities my dad faced, but as an adult, it’s easier to see how important my father was in my upbringing and how he impacted my life. In honor of Father’s Day, here’s wisdom my dad taught me that you can also apply.

Always Explore: My dad was a natural at discovering new things and figuring out how they worked, why God created them and sometimes even how to improve them. His love of exploring taught me not to be afraid to learn or approach new things, people or situations. Be Unique: My dad was never one to go with the crowd. He was unique, fun, and genuine. He didn’t care what others thought of him and he taught me the freedom of being myself and having my own interest that made me who I am.

Mistakes Are Okay: My dad never judged me when I made a mistake. He didn’t get mad when I didn’t get the best grade on a test. He was more concerned about me and how I was learning.
Work Hard: My dad worked selflessly for our family for years while my mom stayed at home and taught us. He came home at night and helped with homework and chores, even when he was exhausted. This taught me the beauty of sacrifice.

Pursue Your Dreams: My dad empowered me to chase my dreams. He made me feel like I could achieve anything.

What plans have you made to honor the homeschool dad in your house this Father’s Day?
Be sure to thank him for all his acts of love and behind-the-scenes support. Show appreciation for all he does to make your homeschooling successful and thank him for the love he communicates to your family. “Honour they father and mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee” (Exodus 20:12)

GRACIAS, PAPA

Padres Homeschool, así como las mamás, tienen la doble responsabilidad de no ser sólo un padre sino también ser un maestro. Cuando era niño, no entendía ni apreciaba las responsabilidades de mi padre, pero como adulto, es más fácil ver cuán importante era mi padre en mi educación y cómo impactó mi vida. En honor del Día del Padre, aquí está la sabiduría que mi papá me enseñó que también se puede aplicar.

* Siempre Explorar: Mi padre fue un natural en descubrir nuevas cosas y averiguar cómo trabajaron, por qué Dios los creó ya veces hasta cómo mejorarlos. Su amor por la exploración me enseñó a no tener miedo de aprender o acercarse a nuevas cosas, personas o situaciones. * Sea único: Mi papá nunca fue uno para ir con la multitud. Él era único, divertido y genuino. No le importaba lo que otros pensaban de él y me enseñó la libertad de ser yo mismo y tener mi propio interés que me hizo quien soy.
* Los errores están bien: Mi papá nunca me juzgó cuando cometí un error. No se enfadó cuando no obtuve el mejor grado en una prueba. Estaba más preocupado por mí y por lo que estaba
a p r e n d i e n d o.
* Trabajar duro: Mi padre trabajó desinteresadamente para nuestra familia durante años mientras mi mamá se quedaba en casa y nos enseñaba. Llegó a casa por la noche y ayudó con la tarea y las tareas domésticas, incluso cuando estaba agotado. Esto me enseñó la belleza del sacrificio.

NEW ONLINE CURRICULUM PROVIDER

We are contracting with a new curriculum provider beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. We will continue to offer APEX Online Curriculum, GradPoint Online Curriculum, and Ignitia Online Curriculum. However, with the new provider, we will have a greater choice of courses, including electives … and a better pricing schedule.

You may choose to be your child’s teacher with 85-90% of all work graded by the system. You may select between 1-4 certified teachers to aid your child – and you – in their studies. You may select up to 6 courses for no extra cost.

Students who are currently enrolled in Apex, GradPoint, and Monarch courses will finish their courses and then be moved into the new provider platforms and given new Login Codes. Monarch students will begin using Ignitia, which is an updated version of Monarch. Of course, we will conference with online students and parents to make decisions about what courses will be taken for the new school year.

ALL CURRENT APEX STUDENTS:

All Apex courses must be completed by June 15!! If you will not be finished by that date, you MUST contact your teachers to make arrangement for completing. You will not be able to access APEX

Calendar

Important dates to remember

June 5: Term 3 report due in school office
June 21: End of Term 3 for international students
July 1-August 1: APEX courses closed.
July 1-August 1: GradPoint students may continue working but with limited teacher support. July 3-7: Summer Break (school closed)
August 31: End of Term reports are due for summer work.
September 1: Beginning of 2017-2018 school year.
